Sri Vyasa Puja 2010
ISKCON Bangalore grandly celebrated Srila Prabhupada’s Vyasa Puja, the 114th appearance day of His Divine Grace A.C Bhakthivedanta Swami Prabhupada. Click Here to view the Photo Gallery for Vyasa Puja 2010 Hundreds of devotees were seen rushing with baskets carrying delicacies they prepared at home. They assembled at the counters where volunteers took account of the different items and received them. “We are just sorting out all the items and counting them. We are quite excited about being a part of the festivity” said Mamatha, one of the devotees who participated in the festival. Several others were also engrossed in arranging the items they brought from home. The offering consisted of 6532 different types of items like sweets, savories, rice, dal, beverages etc., prepared personally by devotees with love and affection. This day also celebrated as Nandotsava, is dedicated to Srila Prabhupada who was empowered by Lord Sri Krishna to spread His message all over the world. Devotees observe the Appearance day festival of His Divine Grace by remembering His activities, teachings and devotional qualities.
The evening festivities began with an enthusiastic group of devotees singing kirtans glorifying His Divine Grace. This was followed by an elaborate abhisheka with milk, curd, ghee, honey, fruit juices, tender coconut water and other auspicious items. Later, an elaborate Guru-Puja was performed to Srila Prabhupada with Guru Vandana (from Prema-Bhakti-Chandrika) by Srila Narottama Dasa Thakura being sung during the arati. As it is customary in the Vaishnava tradition, the devotees of ISKCON Bangalore presented their homages compiled in the form of a beautiful book .The book was offered to Srila Prabhupada by Sri Madhu Pandit Dasa, Temple President, ISKCON Bangalore. It was also announced that there have been 495 homages from 26 locations including temples and preaching centers for the year 2010. Sri Madhu Pandit Dasa, in his homage to Srila Prabhupada, presented some of the historical facts and the directions given by Srila Prabhupada on the matter of succession in ISKCON. His offering was profuse with quotations by Srila Prabhupada. This was followed by presentations of homages by Sri Chanchalapathi Dasa and other senior devotees of the temple. The occasion was also graced by the presence of the former Governor of Jharkhand and Former Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court, Justice Mandagadde Rama Jois, who fondly remembered his meeting with Srila Prabhupada during the 70s. Prof Mallepuram G Venkatesh, Vice chancellor of Karnataka Sanskrit University also paid his homage and said “In the present day, our lives are engulfed in materialistic darkness and Srila Prabhupada has shown the world a method to dissipate this through bhakti as mentioned in Srimad Bhagavatam”. As all the devotees offered flowers to His Divine Grace, prasadam offerings was distributed to everyone present.
